5 Things to Avoid if You Want to be Productive

Just when you wanted to have a productive day at work, you don't get much done! Chances are that ingrained habits are to blame. Read on to find out which things are best left out of your workday when you have a lot to do!

Checking your phone

It's so tempting: grabbing your phone to do a quick round of social media or check for new messages. But before you know it, you're down to ten minutes (if not longer). And that's several times a day!

It may sound silly, but it is advisable to schedule so-called "scrolling time" during the day. That way you are less likely to lose precious minutes on your phone that you could have just as easily put into your work.

Pick up non-work-related things

Try to stay away from things that have nothing to do with your work as much as possible. So don't start working on your grocery list for when you go to the supermarket after work or make reservations for that one restaurant where you're going to dine with your friends that night. You might think: it'll only take a minute. But this so-called way of multitasking can take you out of concentration completely.

Having too many tabs open in your web browser

Are you one of those who always have many tabs open? Each tab will attract your attention without you even realizing it.

Unnecessary meetings

A recent survey shows that many employees see too many unnecessary meetings as the biggest annoyance at work. If you are one of those who schedule a meeting every so often, think carefully about whether it is necessary. Sometimes things can be discussed by e-mail or phone. Even better: just drop in on a colleague. Fast and effective!

Want to solve problems (of others) immediately

Are you that collegial colleague who always comes to the rescue as soon as someone needs an extra hand? Noble of you, but keep in mind that you no longer have time for your work at that moment. So it is wise to consider whether it is convenient for you to help the other person out.
