If you are someone who has a fascination with space, you might dream of one day visiting Mars. However, as we all know, the concept of commercial space travel is still a long way away. Sure, the rich and the famous might get a quick rollercoaster ride into the atmosphere and back. They cannot, no matter how much cash they have, get to Mars. If you want to see what Mars is supposed to look like, though, you could always take a detour to Lanzarote!
This gorgeous Canary Island has some parts of its landscape that match up with the red sands of Mars. Indeed, if you were to wake up on Lanzarote you could probably convince yourself you have awoken on Mars – especially with some of the skylines that can appear here.
It is a location with many gorgeous red dunes and large, rugged cliff faces that run for miles. It is also common to find large blowholes in the ground – again, something we tend to associate with Mars. This is therefore a very intriguing idea and something that most people could fall in love with if they spent enough time dealing with the experience.
There are some truly impressive sights waiting for you in Lanzarote that look alien, too. The weird spherical vineyards might be manmade, but the wine they create is very different from wine that you try from other parts of the world.
You could also take a trip through the Timanfaya National Park, a rock-filled treasure that looks barren to the eye but is anything but. If you have ever dreamt of stepping foot on Mars, then, you might wish to come and take a look at Lanzarote.
Sure, you aren’t actually leaving our planet, but you can enjoy a visual experience that is going to feel very different from anything else on Earth. Best of all? You won’t need a space suit or a rover to get around!
