Jared Leto is portraying Karl Lagerfeld in a film about his life, the actor tells Women's Wear Daily. Leto is currently conducting research and is in talks with acquaintances of the fashion designer who died in 2019.
"I want to portray him as truthfully as possible," says the Suicide Squad actor. "From celebrities, you often don't see the deeper layer. Only one or two important characteristics are highlighted through the media."
The same is true of Lagerfeld, Leto believes. "Karl was a human being. We all have beautiful sides and less beautiful ones. We sometimes wear a mask, and at other times we show our true selves. I find the latter interesting."
That's why Leto is in talks with some of Lagerfeld's acquaintances, including his personal assistant and other employees of the fashion house founded by the designer. They will also be involved in the making of the film and will see to it that Lagerfeld is portrayed appropriately.
Famous friends and fans
"Karl had a career that spanned over 50 years and got to know a lot of people during that time. In the film, we dive into some of those relationships that were important in his life." By the way, this is not the first time Leto has played a fashion designer: in House of Gucci, he took on the role of Paolo Gucci.
It is not yet known who will direct the film. It is also not clear when the film will hit theaters.
Lagerfeld died on February 19th, 2019, at the age of 85 from the effects of pancreatic cancer. The designer, who worked for Chanel and others, had many famous friends and fans, including Kim Kardashian, Madonna, and Gisele Bundchen. Leto was also friends with Lagerfeld.
