Limassol: Swimming Pools Mushrooms Tower

Developed by the French firm Hamonic + Masson, this unique and magnificent apartment tower was created with the coastal town of Limassol in Cyprus in mind. The wild concept includes round swimming pools coming out of its façade on all sides, providing a private pool for every one of its units.

To keep the pattern going, platforms and sun shades cluster at the bottom so that when one looks down from above, the complex looks like a colony of spores or mushrooms.

“The volume’s transparency means unobstructed sea views are maximized. A sliding glass door is the only element separating living areas from the balconies, meaning the feeling of being outside is possible simply by opening the window. On the ground floor a regal entrance opens the doors to a unique living experience.”

“We seek to enhance quality of living by offering a range of amenities: an underground fitness zone illuminated by natural sunlight, an art gallery on the ground floor and a premium spa on the first floor, all with independent entrances. Wellbeing and luxury combine to create an exclusive living experience.”

The goal for the architects was to portray the “natural splendor” of the environment through their design. The building holds 19 luxury apartments, some with views of the sea, and rises around 180 feet into the air.

While anyone in their right mind would jump at having their own private pool just outside the door, the looks of this thing does make you question its structural soundness. Is it realistic? Or will it remain just a vision, a dream on paper? I’m certainly intrigued and will watch to see what happens!
