Meet CyberOne, Xiaomi’s New Humanoid Robot

Xiaomi has unveiled the Cyberone, a humanoid robot that is 1.77 meters tall and weighs 52 kilograms. The robot has arms and legs like a human and can walk around, recognize people and lift things, among other things. It has been nicknamed “Metal bro,” and will cost between $89,100 to $104,000.

The Chinese company showed a working prototype of CyberOne on a stage. The robot walked independently for a bit and then gave a flower to Xiaomi director Lei Jun, who then took a selfie together with the device. The machine has a head with a curved OLED screen on top. It can record its surroundings in 3D thanks to cameras and sensors, and it uses two microphones to pick up sounds and voices.

The unveiling of the CyberOne came out of nowhere. Not a lot of people were aware of the fact that Xiaomi was planning to unveil their humanoid robot. This is not the first time the Chinese tech giant has launched a robotic product. The company previously unveiled a CyberDog, a mechanized dog-like robot.

It is equipped with Xiaomi’s self-developed whole-body control algorithm, which can coordinate the movement of 21 joints. Further, the humanoid robot can interpret 45 human semantic emotions and distinguish 85 environmental semantics. The robot is claimed to learn new skills each day.

What the function of the robots will be is not known. "We think intelligent robots will definitely be part of people's lives in the future," Lei Jun said at the presentation.
