4 Of The Most Unpopular Backpacking Trails in the World

If you are going backpacking, many hotspots come recommended by locals and travelers alike. By the same token, though, some trials have been tried out and the verdict was simple: never again!

To help you avoid planning a trip that you will hate, here are just a few of the most disliked backpacking trails that you are going to find in the world. If possible, avoid coming to any of these trails.

Snowman Trek, Bhutan

The first trail to avoid on our list would be the Snowman Trek, found in Bhutan. This particular journey is not one that you will enjoy – it is a great experience if you are an experienced hiker and have lots of spare time. It can take as long as three weeks to complete, so you need to be prepared for a long, lonesome journey through some very remote locations. The views at the top of the Himalayan mountains, though, are special.

Cu Chi Tunnels, Vietnam

If you are someone who hates being underground, avoid it at all costs. The Cu Chi Tunnels are incredible, and a reminder of the challenges found during the Vietnam War. However, you will see some truly stunning scenery as you work your way through these tunnels. It is not for the faint of heart as there is also the acceptance that some pretty awful things took place within these tunnels during the war.

The Inca Trail, Peru

Avoid at all costs if you are not someone with significant hiking and outdoor experience. You will spend an inordinate amount of time climbing and hiking, and while the views at the top of the Andes Mountains are breathtaking it is not worth the physical effort required to get here. The Inca Trail might be awesome to look at, but it is not for everyone. One to avoid for beginners, for sure.

Kungsleden Trail, Sweden

This particular trail will be famed for its beautiful backdrop – but you soon realize why this is so rare once you get started. A trip through the mountains of Scandinavia sounds idyllic, but it is often a very challenging process. It is not one we would ever recommend as a trail to take on for anyone but the most experienced travellers and hikers. The sights are immense, but it is such a trying journey you might wonder why you took it on in the first place.
